Ferry Service:
For those arriving by car, a one mile crossing of
the
St. Mary's River via the Drummond Island ferry can afford a view of
freighter traffic. The ferry to Drummond operates year round, with
hourly runs from early morning (5-6am) to late evening (1-2am).
The crossing takes about 10 minutes. The car ferry can accommodate
large loads, up to and including modular homes. The round trip fare
is paid only when traveling from the DeTour
side
to Drummond. The fare is collected by the
ferry crew soon after departure. Rates
vary for car/trailer combinations, but a typical single vehicle with
a driver and passenger costs $12. When you arrive on the
island, take M-134 into the "4 Corners",
approximately 8 miles. At the 4 corners you will see signs
indicating various lodging facilities and businesses on the island.
The Ferry schedule is listed at the bottom of this page.
Getting Around the Island:
Automobile travel affords the visitor access to
many parts of the Island.
Biking is another way that people enjoy seeing the island and, of
course, hiking affords a further view of local scenery.
Boats, give a totally different point
of view of the Island. Charters and Cruises may be arranged
locally .

There are a number of private marinas on the Island.
Cross-country skiing is a fun way for some to visit natural
features on the island, and snow shoeing is another pastime that
visitors and islanders enjoy.
One of the latest trends on the island is jeeping . The trails
range from extremely rugged to mild and ambling.
In
winter, ride your snowmobile across on the ferry (cost is $5), or
stay on Drummond and enjoy over 76 miles of groomed snowmobile
trails, which will afford a look at the Island not available in the
summer by car or boat. Christmas trees on the ice mark routes across to
Canada on the "International Ice Bridge".
